Last night, the HBK* line feasted on Jason Garrison and Braydon Coburn. Phil Kessel was out against Garrison last night for a total of 7:13 and launched 13 shot attempts on goal while only allowing 3.
At what point will a coach sacrifice a match-up against Crosby and Malkin to shut this line down? Will we ever get to that point at all?
Last night, Victor Hedman spent 10:00 and change against Sidney Crosby’s line, effectively limiting them to 47% puck-possession during that time. He had a similar effect on Evgeni Malkin in about 7:00 and change of ice time.
But if you can’t stop the HBK line, you still lose. This is as tough of a decision an opposing coach will ever be faced with.
The scary part? There might not be a correct answer.
